Your safari begins with a morning departure from Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, or your Mount Kenya base town, including Nanyuki, Naro Moru or Chogoria. The drive from Nairobi takes approximately 6 hours, with a lunch stop in Nanyuki, passing scenic views of Kenya's central highlands, coffee and tea plantations, Mount Kenya and the open savannah landscapes of Laikipia. From the Mount Kenya region, the drive takes approximately 3 hours, depending on your starting point, with a lunch stop in Isiolo or at your lodge. Upon arrival in Samburu, check in at your accommodation and enjoy a refreshing fruit juice as you settle in. At 3:00 pm, head out for your first evening game drive until approximately 6:30 pm. Samburu is famous for its unique wildlife, often referred to as the Special Five of Samburu: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. You may also encounter elephants, lions, leopards and numerous bird species. Return to your lodge or camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.
